Cracking Comedy with James Acaster Raises £13,085 For Women and Children Worldwide

June 28, 2022

Thank you to all who came to the Leicester Square Theatre and tuned in on NextUp to our latest Comedy Night. Together, you have raised an astonishing £13,085, toppling our target and enabling the charity to support more women and children to survive and thrive in some of the world’s most rural communities.

The money raised came from donations on the night, proceeds from tickets and streaming sales. Thanks to all who gave their support and enjoyed a night of hilarious live comedy for a good cause.

The support given will enable us to further our life-changing, life-saving impacts in countries including Ethiopia, Malawi and Uganda. Much of our work involves creating community groups, bringing people together to find the solutions to their health problems, including access to health facilities, or mitigating the risks of preventable and treatable diseases, such as malaria.

This also covers work with teenagers and adolescent women in Malawi, with the use of radio soaps and programming addressing issues including sexual and reproductive health, starting later this year.

A massive thanks too to our hilarious line-up of excellent comedians, who brought the house down into fits of laughter. They included James Acaster, Daniel Foxx, Sindhu Vee, Mike Wozniak, Maisie Adam, Olga Koch, Nathan Caton, Elf Lyons and our new MC, rising star Vix Leyton.

Here’s some photos from the evening, thanks to NextUp Comedy and Edward Moore (@edshots).

We are also grateful to Jenny Ryan, known as The Vixen from ITV’s The Chase, for performing her surprise stand-up debut at the show. The comedians and their performances were met with rapturous applause and hefty laughter.

Special thanks also go to NextUp, the stand-up comedy streaming service. Their coverage allowed hundreds of extra people to tune-in to the show live on their screens, with people watching all across the UK and the world, including people in Sweden and the USA.

They also generously donated the first payment of new subscriptions to the charity, helping to support even more women and children in some of the world’s most rural, remote communities.

WeGotTickets also offered fantastic support in spreading the word about the show, collecting additional donations and giving back a portion of the booking fees back to further the charity’s work.

The comedy show will be back later in 2022. To be first to know more about the date and the comedians taking part, sign up to our newsletter - where you’ll also get great stories about how the charity is empowering and supporting more women and children in rural communities.
